Why We Start With the Weather

React-layouts is a kitchen remodeling contractor working in Carlsbad, and the way we approach a kitchen comes from spending a lot of time in houses near the water. A remodel here can look perfect on the day it is finished and start to show its age within two or three years, not because the cabinets were set badly but because the parts people handle every day were never meant for salt air. Pulls blister. Hinge screws rust into the cabinet side. The base of a faucet turns chalky and green. A stainless range picks up small orange spots that do not wipe off.

So we ask a question most showrooms do not: how far is the house from the beach, and which way does the kitchen face? A home in Olde Carlsbad a few blocks from the sand gets a different finish schedule from a house in Robertson Ranch, where the concern is afternoon heat through a west window rather than morning fog.

How a Project Runs

The first visit is a walk through the kitchen you have. We open the sink base to look for past leaks, check whether the cabinet boxes are plywood or particleboard and whether they are still square, look at the electrical panel, and trace where a hood duct could run. Sometimes that visit ends with the recommendation that you keep your cabinets and replace the hardware and faucet. That is a real outcome, and we would rather give it than sell a remodel that is not needed.

When a larger job does make sense, you get a written scope that lists materials by base metal and finish, not just by color name. Plans go to the City of Carlsbad when walls, plumbing, gas or circuits change, and to your HOA when an exterior vent or window is involved. The work follows a predictable order: demolition, rough plumbing and electrical, inspection, drywall, cabinets, countertop template, counters, then fixtures, appliances and hardware.

What We Will Not Do

We do not recirculate a hood when a duct is possible without saying so plainly. We do not install plated zinc pulls in a kitchen by the beach without telling you what happens to them. And we do not start work on a pre 1978 house without checking for lead paint first, because a kitchen demolition is exactly where old paint turns into dust.
